How to Scan a Discord QR Code Safely (Login vs Server Invite)

Scan a Discord login QR in the mobile app, scan server invite QRs with a camera, and recognize QR login scams before authorizing a session.

QRFlow Editorial TeamReviewed against generator behaviorTroubleshooting

Distinguish Discord login QR from a server invite QR

Discord uses QR codes for two different tasks. A login QR shown on Discord's desktop sign-in screen authorizes account access: open the Discord mobile app, use its QR scanner, review the computer and location shown, and approve only a login you started. Never scan a login QR sent by another person. A server invite QR is different; scanning it opens a discord.gg invitation that you can inspect before joining. If the invite exists as an image, use the phone gallery or QRFlow's local reader, then verify the server name and invite domain. Cancel immediately if a login prompt or destination looks unfamiliar.

  • Approve login QR only when you started the desktop sign-in.
  • Server invite QR should resolve to an expected discord.gg link.
  • Reject unfamiliar device, location, server, or destination details.

Discord uses QR codes for two different jobs. A login QR authorizes a desktop or browser session. A server invite QR opens a discord.gg invitation. Check which one you have before scanning.

Scan a Discord login QR#

  1. Open the login screen yourself on Discord desktop or the official Discord website.
  2. On a phone already signed in to Discord, open the app's QR scanning option and scan the code.
  3. Read the authorization screen and approve only the computer and location you recognize.

Discord explains the official flow in its QR Code Login FAQ.

Scan a Discord server invite QR#

  1. Use the normal iPhone or Android camera.
  2. Confirm the preview points to an expected Discord invite destination.
  3. Open Discord, review the server name, and choose whether to join.

Do not scan a login QR sent by someone else#

A login QR can grant access to your account. Never scan one from a message, giveaway, moderation request, or stranger's screen. If the approval screen shows an unfamiliar computer or location, cancel it. For community owners, create an invite QR instead of sharing a login QR.
