vCard QR codes are awesome for event badges and networking — but only if they scan fast and save cleanly in Contacts.
Keep it minimal for better scanning
The more data you pack into a vCard, the denser the QR gets. Denser codes need more print size and are more sensitive to blur. Prioritize the fields people actually use.
Fields that usually matter
- Name (first + last) — so the saved contact isn’t “Unknown”.
- Phone (mobile) — most common action after scanning.
- Email — a reliable fallback and searchable later.
- Organization + Title — good for business context.
- Website — optional, but useful if you don’t want to include lots of social links.
What to avoid (unless you really need it)
- Too many social URLs (each extra URL increases density).
- Long notes or multi-line addresses unless you can print larger.
- Emoji-heavy fields (some apps handle them poorly; test first).
Best practice for print
- Generate the vCard QR.
- Scan it on iPhone and Android and confirm it saves the fields you care about.
- Use SVG and keep enough margin (quiet zone).
